Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity. Image Space Material

The aim of the Cluster Matters of Activity is to provide the foundations for a new culture of materiality in the sense of reinventing the analog in the digital age. The development of sustainable, energy-saving artefacts and techniques requires the inseparability of active images, spaces and materials through an interdisciplinary approach in which the humanities, natural sciences and design disciplines cooperate as equal partners. Experimental and design-oriented approaches will be combined with historical analysis in order to draw practical and theoretical consequences.

 

Job description:

Scientific services in research within the setting »Setting Knife« within the project »Cutting« of the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity. The project »Cutting« focuses on the analysis of the material and virtual interface phenomena that occur during the process of cutting. It aims to redefine the cultural technique of cutting through collaborative interdisciplinary research that combines applied, design-based, experimental, and theoretical approaches.

 

Requirements:

Completed academic education and excellent PhD in a subject relevant to the project (physics, materials science, engineering, physical chemistry or a related field); further qualifications related to actuators and sensors are desired; above-average willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation in the cluster, especially in the fields of medicine, computer science and design sciences; very good written and spoken English skills.
